Episode 03: Introduction to Simulation Narratives
Simulation narratives differ from traditional narratives in that in lieu of singular story elements we have variable story element tests. Consider the image below. If we extend the act and sequence breaks down to as if to make a pizza slice, and we define the centermost stars as potential story element tests, the line insecting the stars creates a story through three acts as the viewer successfully passes each narrative test.
Story Element Tests
Story element tests are how we determine if the viewer is on a story path. We use data gathered from the viewer to determine if they are experiencing the element to the degree the artists intended.
